Die USS Saratoga war einer von zwei Flugzeugträgern der Lexington-Klasse. Ihr Kiel wurde am 25. September 1920 bei der New York Shipbuilding Corporation gelegt; am 7. April 1925 lief sie vom Stapel, am 16. November 1927 stellte die US Navy sie in Dienst. Das Briefing zeichnet den Weg vom ersten auf dem Schiff gelandeten Flugzeug im Januar 1928 über zahlreiche Flottenmanöver bis zu ihrem Einsatz im Pazifikkrieg nach.
USS Saratoga was one of two Lexington-class aircraft carriers. Her keel was laid at the New York Shipbuilding Corporation on 25 September 1920; she was launched on 7 April 1925 and commissioned by the US Navy on 16 November 1927. The briefing traces her service from the first aircraft landing aboard in January 1928 through numerous fleet exercises and into the Pacific War.

In 1946 Saratoga became part of the target fleet for Operation Crossroads at Bikini Atoll. She survived the Able air burst on 1 July. The underwater Baker detonation mortally damaged the carrier on 25 July, after which she sank in the lagoon. This account comes from the official ship history published by the U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command, because the supplied briefing does not itself state the immediate sinking sequence.

The Dive
Schon außen gibt die breite Flugplattform den Maßstab des Trägers vor; die Aufbauten der Insel strukturieren den Weg über das Deck. Im Inneren wechseln technische und alltägliche Räume: Im Combat Information Centre stehen noch Bedienpulte und ein Mikrofon, im Friseursalon der Stuhl. Ein Operationstisch markiert das Krankenrevier, ein Telefon den Werkstattgang.
Outside, the broad flight deck establishes the carrier's scale, while the island structures organise the route across the deck. Inside, technical and everyday spaces alternate: operator consoles and a microphone remain in the Combat Information Centre, with the barber's chair in the barbershop. An operating table identifies the sick bay, and a telephone the workshop passage.

The penetration-points diagram maps the internal sequence from the flight and main decks through the hangar levels to the scullery, dental surgery, dive locker, machine shop and blacksmith shop. It is an orientation to visible areas, not a dive plan. Depths and qualification requirements will be added only when a reliable source is available.
