1946 versammelten die USA bei Bikini eine Zielflotte aus erbeuteten und ausgemusterten Kriegsschiffen, um die Wirkung von Atombomben auf die Marine zu testen (Operation Crossroads). Was die Detonationen versenkten, liegt heute in der Lagune — darunter der Flugzeugträger USS Saratoga und das japanische Schlachtschiff Nagato.

In 1946 the US assembled a target fleet of captured and surplus warships at Bikini to test the effect of atomic weapons on a navy (Operation Crossroads). What the detonations sank now rests in the lagoon — including the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga and the Japanese battleship Nagato.

Bikini ist abgelegen und logistisch anspruchsvoll. Genau das macht die Wracks zu einem der außergewöhnlichsten und am wenigsten betauchten Ziele der Welt.

Bikini is remote and logistically demanding. That is exactly what makes these wrecks one of the most extraordinary and least-dived destinations anywhere.

Die Wracks im UNESCO-Kulturerbe liegen in einer Durchschnittstiefe von ca. 50 m. Auf der Tour sind Dekompressionstauchgänge die Regel, nicht die Ausnahme. Die Basis bildet eine solide technische Ausbildung und Erfahrung im OC- oder CCR-Tauchen.

The wrecks in this UNESCO World Heritage site lie at an average depth of around 50 m. On the trip, decompression dives are the rule, not the exception. The foundation is solid technical training and experience in open-circuit or CCR diving.

Anreise über Honolulu nach Kwajalein, Transfer zum Schiff und Einrichten von Ausrüstung, Gasen und CCR. Sicherheitsbriefing und Tauchplanung, bevor es zu den ersten Wracks geht.

Zwei technische Tauchgänge täglich, Dekompression ist die Regel: der Flugzeugträger USS Saratoga über mehrere Tauchgänge, das kieloben liegende Schlachtschiff Nagato mit seinen 16-Zoll-Geschützen, dazu der kaum betauchte Flugzeugfriedhof mit Wildcats, Corsairs und Avengers.
